How I got here.
I left my federal contractor job back in September of 2009 because I had become disgusted with the absolute waste that is government today. When I began in 2006, for what I thought was going to be a fruitful Public Service, I joined a highly experienced team of professionals who were hired to do a moderately complicated project with a scheduled completion date of July 2007. What we all got was a 3 year lesson in government waste.
Over the 3 years, this one project spent 10's of millions of dollars to produce mountains of paperwork, built a prototype system that catered to less than 1% of the intended users, and “retired” 3 capable project managers. The last project manager, unfamiliar with the product we were building, demanded that we rewrite the specifications in a completely different methodology. At that point I knew we were just going to create mountains of new paperwork to make it look as though we were making progress, a trick not unknown by today's Congress. A dysfunctional client (the Feds) and ever changing ambiguous methods, rules, and objectives (the Feds) set the course to an expensive nowhere. It must be mentioned that it was not the professionals that made this project dysfuntional, it was the Federal way of doing things. No more, I could no longer participate in the obscene waste of US tax dollars so I left to an uncertain future. Not long after the project was disbanded.
So what did I do? I started my own firm and got a little work in the beginning but that soon dried up. To make use of my unemployment, no unemployment checks mind you, I began putting together thoughts to get the US back on a path to Individual Sovereignty and efficient State and Federal Services. My work is in transitioning large organizations from old ineffective methods to new efficient methods, so it seemed to be a fitting use of my time and experiences. I have always been a student of the Constitution, but had not deeply studied how and why it was written so I started researching. What I found after several books, the Federalist Papers, and notes of the Founding Fathers was truly inspiring.
Here's the crux of what I discovered. The Constitution was written to form a Federation that only gave the US Government enough power, The Rule of Law, to keep The United States safe from collapse and safe from foreign invaders. Capitalism, or Free Enterprise, went hand in hand with the Rule of Law since it works with that set of limited rules to enable everyone, who learn the rules, to predict the outcome of their actions. Nothing more, nothing less.
My first idea to bring the US back to its roots was to form a new party, 'The Localist Party', built upon the Founders' ideas that we should govern ourselves Locally and to support the State and Federal governments in providing for the few enumerated responsibilities delegated to them. The Republicans were faltering, the Tea Party Movement was too disorganized, and the Democrats had been taken over by socialists, progressives, or whatever moniker the 'Leadership' chooses de jour, in the end they all support Central Planning. A more detailed look showed that the Two Major Parties were little different than Two Aristocratic Families fighting for the unconstitutional Authority over our daily lives.
However, forming a new party was too big a task and time consuming for someone of my means to accomplish so I decided to run as a Republican in District 13, where I had lived to nearly 2 years.
To begin I started visiting the State Capital to see how the Local Representatives operated. This was an education in two ways. First, I quickly found out while I am a little 'r' republican, fiscally and constitutionally conservative, I am also a little 'd' democrat, being in “far right” terms, socially liberal. Second, the D's and R's aren't bad folks, it is just that their Methods have grown to become their Objectives like many other organizations their age and size. I do not fit the Republican or Democratic molds, because I have a combination of Democratic and Republican principles, more properly I am a Jeffersonian.
By paying close attention to the recent Legislative fiascos, it has become apparent that the Democrats and Republicans are more interested in fighting and blaming each other for combined failures than working within the confines of the Constitution, which in a Rule of Law setting as prescribed by our Constitution, only allows us to agree on what's Constitutional and what is not. Everything else is left to the States and/or the People. Unconstitutional Bipartisanship is still unconstitutional.
In addition to not fitting the Party mold, District 13 is too large and gerrymandered to run an effective campaign without loads of money. I do not have loads of money nor am I interested in spending so much just to get elected.
Lastly, it is now known that 'freshmen' Representatives are required to spend much of their day campaigning and fundraising. I'm not going to DC to raise money for the 2012 elections, I'm going to DC to get a job done and getting that job done will lead to reelection, which by the way, I will only serve up to 3 terms.
This led me to run in District 5 as an Independent. I have lived in D5 for most of the last 10 years and understand the common needs of the citizens and businesses in our capable communities. Being a Democratic Republican, I can bridge the gap between the D's and R's by providing a course to Independence, both politically and with regards to self sufficiency for our communities.
The D's and R's do not have the solutions. We do, right here at home. This is not a cry to create a new Independent party, but rather a Call to Action for the citizens and businesses to first reclaim the authority over our domestic lives, and then use that independence in a manner that best benefits our district and our neighbors. It is the Citizens and Businesses, including myself, in the 5th District that will provide not only the ideas, but also the work that will create the path to a better Quality of Life for all.
Retrieving control over our daily lives leads to Independence. Independence requires work and work means jobs. The 5th District can no longer 'hope' that the Feds (D's or R's) will make necessary and proper use of our efforts and taxes. We must do the job ourselves if we want it done right!
So that leads me to today. TO THIS POINT, I have used every bit of my resources to do what I can for the Campaign and to support a very modest living.
While preparing to run for office and looking for short term consulting contracts, I have been taking any labor I can find; in many cases WORKING RIGHT ALONG SIDE the Latinos THAT flood that market. My own career in Information Technology/Enterprise Resource Planning is flooded with folks trying to support a family. I cannot collect unemployment and I do not qualify for entitlements, nor would I take them.
Bottom line: I HAVE only ONE MONTH TO QUALIFY AS A CANDIDATE.
I need work, I need signatures, and I also need to meet YOU, the citizens, in Georgia's 5th District.
Therefore, I am making this appeal:
Candidate for Congress Willing to Work - Available to work - Immediately thru November 2, 2010
Here's what I have to offer: I have recently laid down hardwood flooring, put up crown and base molding, painted, pressure washed tens of thousands of square feet of driveway, cut down unwanted trees and split them, yard work, and even picked up trash.
For those of you who don't have a full day's worth of work, get with your neighbor(s) and combine to make one. For those of you who have nothing on your list, contact your friends and colleagues and get in touch to set up a "Meet and Greet'.
I WANT input directly from YOU, the citizens of the 5th District and look forward to getting out and meeting as many folks as possible.
So give me a call or email me to set up an appointment and get something off your 'To do' list. And don't forget, write down your Questions and Requirements for the next Representative of Georgia's 5th Congressional District; you will have my full attention.
With appreciation,
